Every great restoration starts the same way: staring at a car that’s equal parts potential and problem, then deciding you’re the one to bring it back to glory.
Successful restoration projects take more than enthusiasm. Achieving your goals requires a clear vision, a realistic sense of scope, and most importantly a trusted team.
Griot’s Motors Shop Foreman Forrest Davis understands this better than most. He’s partnered with clients on restoration projects of every size. From nut and bolt historic concour show perfection to resto-mod re-power, Forrest has worked with different clients to bring their vision into reality.

Think about the overall goal. How would you like to enjoy your vehicle after restoration?
- Weekend drives
- Concours show car
- Family heirloom or gift
- Modifications for modern comfort/amenities
-
Investment
- From here to there... What condition is your vehicle starting from? How far are you willing to go to achieve your goal?
-
- Has your project car been sitting for a long period of time or had a hard life?
- Are you looking for the complete aesthetic package or are you focused on mechanical function?
- Is customizing or updating a classic your priority?
- How do you define “complete restoration”? Perfection is subjective.
- Establish an investment budget or range; break it into must-haves and extras.

Where is your threshold for the unexpected?
We take every precaution during our intensive inspections to get the best picture of the current state of a vehicle. During disassembly a lot is discovered about the history of a car and some of that history can be scary! Rust, collision damage, poor previous repairs etc. - Understand where work will be done, and by whom.
We built our facility to house as much of the restoration process “in-house” as possible. From fabrication to full paint refinishing very few aspects of our process ever leaves our facility.
For items that need a specialized touch such as chrome, zinc plating, intricate upholstery and few others we have established a network of trusted partners that help to drive a project forward in conjunction with our onsite work.
