Caterham Super 7

Caterham Super 7

We’re pleased to present this rare and early Caterham Super 7, offered at no reserve on Bring A Trailer.

This particular example represents a unique moment in automotive history as it’s the first model year after Lotus sold the rights to the Super 7 to Caterham Cars, marking the beginning of a new era for one of the most iconic lightweight sports cars ever produced.

Originally sourced from Auto Kennel as a two-owner survivor, this Super 7 had been in long-term storage for over a decade before arriving at our facility. It remains in largely original condition and will require mechanical sorting before regular road use. That said, it's an exceptional opportunity to acquire a highly correct, early-production Caterham with verified provenance.

To confirm its authenticity, we contacted Caterham directly. Their team was kind enough to provide both a Heritage Certificate and the original 1974 order sheet, both of which are included in the gallery. We’ve also included our email exchange with Caterham’s archivist, who offered helpful context around why some of these early Caterhams were titled as Lotuses during the transition period.

Upon arrival, we carried out a number of basic recommissioning steps. The old fuel was drained and replaced, the spark plugs were pulled and inspected, the wires checked, and the carburetors were synced. We also performed a compression test, the results of which are included in the gallery. The rear brakes were found to be seized and have since been rebuilt, and both front calipers were rebuilt to ensure safe stopping capability.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a first-year Caterham. It retains a level of originality that’s seldom found today and presents an excellent platform for preservation, enjoyment, or restoration.

The Super 7 is located at our Tacoma facility and available for viewing/ inspection by appointment.
